The 14th annual EBME Expo took place between 28th and 29th June at the Coventry Building Society Arena. It brought together a diverse range of healthcare professionals responsible for the management, procurement, maintenance, and user training of a wide range of medical equipment used in healthcare organisations.

Who attended EBME Expo 2023?

Delegates included healthcare technologists, clinical scientists, EBME engineers, doctors and nurses, and service managers. Also, IT managers and directors.

Veritek Medical Equipment Servicing Account Manager Ryan Marchant arrived at the Expo on Wednesday, the show’s first day. He said, “As a service provider, attending the EBME Expo provides a valuable opportunity to connect with OEMs at the forefront of medical equipment innovation. The show helps me understand the industry’s evolving needs and collaborate towards delivering maintenance and service solutions that ensure equipment performs optimally.”

The conference

On day one, conference attendees gained valuable insights and explored the latest medical equipment technology and maintenance innovations. The conference programme covered medical equipment management, procurement, and training on day two.

The workshops

The EBME Expo featured a wide array of educational workshops and technical presentations. Topics covered included clinical surveillance, technologies including AI in diagnostics in healthcare and monitoring technologies.

Sustainability was another hot topic. In particular, how HealthTech can help the healthcare sector reach net zero.

In addition to the keynote presentations, the Expo included interactive workshops and training sessions covering various topics from in-house repair and maintenance to cyber security and using medical device data to transform reactive care to insight-driven proactive care.

These sessions allowed attendees to develop practical skills, deepen their technical knowledge, and learn about new equipment and technologies.

The exhibition hall

One of the EBME Expo 2023 highlights was the exhibition hall, where 140+ leading manufacturers and suppliers showcased their latest products and innovations.

The exhibitors we spoke to told us the collaborative atmosphere created a conducive environment for stand visitors to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and establish valuable contacts.

Siemens Healthineers talk to Veritek Account Manager Ryan Marchant about Managed Services at EBME Expo 2023

“We’re here to educate EBMEs about our managed services that help customers manage their current and future technology needs.” Said Senior Marketing Communications Manager Mark Gossage of Siemens Healthineers. “Our managed service partnership involves procurement, financing and maintenance of medical technology. So the Expo is ideal for us.”

PMLS Marketing Manager David Britton of Mindray talks to Veritek Account Manager Ryan Marchant about connected services

“This is a good show for us because EBMEs are technical people who like to see our equipment, and they make the decisions in the hospitals,” said PMLS Marketing Manager David Britton of Mindray. “We’re showcasing a wide range of kit, including the complete solution for the theatre – anaesthetic machines, patient monitors and ultrasound. We also have kit for the general ward, including blood pressure monitoring. All our machinery is connected. Data goes to a central station so that clinicians can make decisions. We’ve got around 16 people on our stand, and they are mostly in conversations.”

Charles Clements of B Braun Medical talks to Veritek Account Manager Ryan Marchant about educating people on how to use dialysis machines

“This is my first time at the show. I’ve walked around and enjoyed seeing what’s new,” said Charles Clements of B Braun Medical. “I work in the NHS. I teach people how to use the machines. I’m here on the B Braun Medical Stand  as a clinical educator to answer questions about the compact and light B Braun Omni Dialysis machine.”

“There is a big move towards virtual wards. They allow people to leave the hospital sooner and be looked after and kept an eye on at home,” said Masimo Account Manager David Wilson. “Masimo provides a vast range of kit. Elsewhere we look after brain function monitoring in theatres. SpO2 monitoring in neonatal units and ICUs. We also have equipment that can help with triage in A&E.

He added. “This is my first time at EBME. It allows us to talk to the right people who need to ask questions about the kit that has just gone into their Trust and the best way to use it. We can talk to them about training and let them know about opportunities to upgrade their technology.”

To sum up

“The feedback I got was that EBME Expo 2023 in Coventry was a worthwhile event for healthcare professionals in medical equipment management,” said Ryan. “It offered a platform for education, collaboration, and innovation. It allowed attendees to stay up to date with the latest trends, enhance their skills, and make informed decisions for their organisations. The Expo’s success in bringing together diverse stakeholders and promoting knowledge exchange highlights its importance in driving advancements in healthcare.”
