What culture means to Veritek & how HR is helping Veritek to embrace the new future of work

C

On 20th May, we celebrate International HR Day. It comes when post-pandemic companies are adapting to new working methods and use wellness as a critical metric to understand their employees.

The theme of International HR Day 2022 is shaping the new future. So, I’ve been reflecting on the role culture has played in helping Veritek to adapt to the changing times and our post-pandemic hybrid working future.

It is said a robust organisational culture helps a company attract and keep its best people. Here’s the thing. I joined Veritek in 2003. In fact, I’m one of many Veritek employees that stay with the company because we genuinely care about the organisation.

That emotional investment comes from the company’s strong culture. What’s more, that strong culture helped the company navigate the challenges presented by the pandemic.

Indeed, it’s that strong culture that is helping the company to shape its future.

Why is culture important to Veritek?

It’s simple, really. Veritek is a service organisation. Not only that, it’s a service organisation that employs a large team of remote field workers.

For this reason, the company relies on its customer service teams and remote workers to communicate its core values and deliver a positive customer experience.

How Veritek interacts internally has a ripple effect on how it interacts with its OEM customers and their customers.

So, where does culture fit into the HR role?

I see my role as Head of HR as protector of the company culture because I’m responsible for looking after the company’s people. And as we’ve established, Veritek’s most valuable asset is its people.

When we talk about shaping the ‘new future of our work’, I believe that creating a supportive working environment is the foundation of our success.

You see, when our staff feel trusted, supported and protected, then in return, they deliver the best possible customer service experience.

What does a supportive working environment look like in reality?

HR is the ultimate people role. My responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, staff welfare, training and career development.

But that’s not all. I’m also the first point of contact for discussions about mental health and changing personal circumstances.

You could say my contribution to the supportive culture is making people feel listened to, appreciated and respected.

HR is a profession leading change to improve working lives and not let companies slip back into traditional thinking and working methods.

Veritek has worked hard to create a supportive culture.

Moreover, that supportive culture helps us adapt to the changing times and our post-pandemic hybrid working future.

I see and value my role in HR as building on and maintaining that culture.

Happy #InternationalHRDay!
